Its Friday, this week several things have happened, I've read a great book (Irvine Welsh Crime), my car tax has run out and I still have no job... Although I'm only out of work for a couple of weeks now.

I'm volunteering in a place called SUAS at the moment, im doing their IT support and some consultancy stuff based around social networking, which I've very little experience off. In the mid 90's (96) I worked for AOL, and had to advise people on how to create web-sites, upload pics etc, never dawned on me to get more into the web, so im mainly a hardware old skool type.. but that going to change as I've recently set off on the road to getting some IT certs. If im honest the last 10 years have been something of a blur to me, and I got by on a college stuff but now I feel the need to update the skills.

First I'm trying to get my head around the whole virtualisation concept, so purchased virtualisation for dummies on wednesday, got through the first chapter and its a interesting read. I'm still none the wiser but im getting there. I also purchased a CCNA book and jezz, the first chapter is 150 pages long.. I'm tired reading that one, its not difficult only its, never ending, reminds me of the IT industry..

Anyway time ticking and I need to run off and do the school run... its time with the kids that is really important at these times, being at home all day supposedly studying.. the kids are keeping me going. Having spent all week helping my son learn the nine time tables, it really pays to spend that extra bit of time with them helping them understand the hard things.

I think I have a lot to learn about work/life balance and I think employers need to do more about it also, however I'm not sure that during these times it matters much to them.. I hope the next job I get have some sort of policy in place.. 4.5 day week sounds good.

Oh and theres some court case happening on Monday, you going to have to tune in next week to see if it happened or not.

Till next time
